I have been in practice for 26 years and for the last 3 years I have been predominantly treating teeth which needed root canal treatment. I enjoy the complexity of these root canal procedures as well as the fact that technology has made it possible to complete root canals much more successfully. In modern Endodontics, we use a small engine which helps us quickly clean out the infected nerve tissue before we seal the roots with a non-reactive filling material.

Root canal treatment can make a failing tooth last an additional 5-20 yrs. And to help keep the tooth healthy for such a long period of time, we normally protect the tooth from subsequent fracture with a crown (or cap) over it which prolongs its lifespan. And with the technology in our office, we can often make these crowns the same day!

If you have a tooth that wakes you up at night occasionally or that is sensitive to hot and cold when you eat or drink, there is a good chance that the tooth needs root canal treatment.
